Alumni of the School for Young Leaders of President Ivanov have a unique educational experience of attending a lecture delivered by
Dr. Renato Toffanin is a Co-founder and Director of ARCHES – Advanced Research Centre for Health, Environment and Space, and a Co-founder of the Knowledge4Innovation Forum in the European Parliament.
📌 The lecture takes place on the occasion of the 15th Anniversary of the School for Young Leaders of President Ivanov.
🎙️ Speaker: Dr. Renato Toffanin
The focus of Dr. Toffanin’s lecture will be on three interconnected topics: systemic innovation, foresight, and policy learning. These areas are increasingly crucial in shaping responses to complex challenges in various domains, including health, environment, and space exploration. Systemic innovation refers to the approach of considering entire systems rather than isolated components when seeking to drive progress and innovation. Understanding the interconnectedness of various elements within a system is key to identifying opportunities for transformative change. Foresight, on the other hand, involves the systematic exploration of future trends, uncertainties, and emerging technologies. By anticipating potential developments, decision-makers can better prepare for future challenges and opportunities, thereby enhancing strategic planning and decision-making processes. Policy learning complements systemic innovation and foresight by emphasizing the importance of continuous adaptation and learning in the policy-making process. In a rapidly evolving world, policymakers must remain agile and receptive to new information and insights to address emerging issues effectively.
Through his lecture, Dr. Toffanin will offer attendees a deeper understanding of these concepts, drawing on his extensive experience and expertise. Real-world examples and case studies will illustrate how systemic innovation, foresight, and policy learning can be applied in practice to address complex societal challenges.
ARCHES acts as a boundaryless organization across the entire research and innovation chain, creating the conditions to achieve the speed, flexibility and integration needed to grow and thrive in today’s globally competitive environment.
The mission of ARCHES is to actively contribute to the advancement of knowledge, and provide support for the implementation of EU policies for research, innovation and development.
ARCHES is founded in 2003 by a group of Italian scientists active at the national and international levels in specific areas of knowledge. Thanks to its high networking capabilities at the European level and beyond, the Centre offers support to find the human and financial resources needed for developing projects integrating scientific excellence and management ability. The Centre also acts as a flexible and reliable interface between academia and industry to promote the effective transfer of knowledge and technology. In line with the global goals and the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development, ARCHES aims above all at the creation of knowledge by establishing collaborations with universities and research centres and by promoting the training of young scientists. It also promotes the recognition of female talent in science and the career of women in scientific research. In this direction, ARCHES adheres to the European Platform of Women Scientists (EPWS) as a supporting organisation.
In 2009, ARCHES co-founded the Brussels-based Knowledge4Innovation (K4I) platform to encourage the innovation dialogue among the main political, industrial and academic actors on the European scene.
